there is a good amount of problems with this outfit the gloves are valour and crumpled, the dress is not doing anything for your body, which is usually good and you are wearing blue leggings.
Black and blue don’t go together, although i have to assume you called in advance and asked about the color scheme of the event poster….or your a physic..either way kudos to you.
Oh Michelle Stafford i am so glad you liked your black sweater and terrible eye burning tapestry dress.. I am really. Who cares how poorly matched they are or that they don’t work together in any sense of drunken dress up possible. you, my brave and wonderful women have worn them together as if they are the best ensemble ever! and for that i would commend you.
Except you look like you got caught walking to your car and didn’t intend to have the sweater on. “Oh shit” your facial expression seems to say.
Well i must thank you Michelle Stafford, for giving me a giftmas present i truly enjoy. the ability to laugh at your misfortune.
I am going to take the time out from what I usually write. The things I usual talk about. And the bitchy and terrible snark that spews from me. To write about something i like, nay Adore and have been obsessive over since i got the soundtrack in September.
The Movie Musical Repo! The Genetic Opera.
here is the trailer for the movie …watch it….
good, now that you’ve done that. i can speak freely.
Shamefully lionsgate has tried time and again to kill and hide this movie from an audience they don’t think exists. They are wrong. This is movie speaks volumes to anyone who feels isolated or alone, it’s about freedom from ideals and freedom of destiny. It is well filmed, it is well acted and it has many gorgeous women and hot boys. (really i would do terrible, naughty and unjust things with at least 2 men in the movie…especially when they sing).
But aside from that it’s subversive and new. We can’t keep watching the same movies and the same musical. The same thing is promoted and pushed out, brainless action film, classic’s remade into utter and complete trash and bastardizations of novels.
For ever Devil Wears Prada and The Dark Knight which are brillent and witty or dark and moving we get a handful if Alvin and the Chipmunks or Tyler Perry Presents and I am sure those movie have an audience.
So does Repo! I went with a very good friend and co-worker to philly 2 and a half hours from where I live to see this movie a second time (i saw it in NYC a few weeks after it started screening)
So i can see it again and meet/hear the director Darren Lynn Bousman (of Saw 2-4 fame ) the co-writer and one of the stars Terrance Zdunich (who is beyond beautiful) do a Q&A after the showing. We got there and shockingly legendary actor Paul Sorvino who is in the film showed up to also answer questions and fuck around with the crowd,
Best 10 bucks i’ve spent in the last year and a half
Visually this is one of the most phenomenal and creative pieces of art captured on films. Costumes that fit in the furturistic steam punk world mesh beautiful with vintage 30’sesque pieces and Victorian corsets with just the right mix of leather and lace.
those are some of the marvelous costumes. Honestly, the designer deserves an oscar nom, although he won’t get it because the film isn’t commercial enough. What you can also gauge from these pictures is how brilliant and stylized this filmed is. it’s a whole new universe unlike anything we have ever experenced on stage or in film and it’s worth the ride.
So why am I writting this totally out of character blog, it’s because i feel like i have to, like i need to. I was an outcast growing up. Try being the only queer in a small republican town and wearing tight jeans and pink fishnets and acting a damn fool. I was a hot mess. I admit it. And I got bullied and I got beat up and I had nowhere to go, and I find rocky horror and it felt like family and I did rocky horror and still do since my junior year of HS that’s 6 years almost. and yes rocky is where i find friends and family and lovers. But rocky is losing something now, as a community but last night at Repo! i met people for the first time and they were like old friends. Commenting on my outfit ( red and black pinstripped Pants, black knee high lace up vinyl boots a grey/mauve vest and black t-shirt) and talking like i was part of their friends. and I watch as 3 brilliant and creative men acted like little kids getting a new toy everytime someone asked a question, or said they loved it, or said thank you.
And it made me feel energized. it made me feel like something was moving inside me and while i no longer wear fishnets in for day to day life and I have what my fashion degree, the magazines and the movies call “style” repo! sparked something in me that makes me want to create. I got home at 4:30 in the morning and started sketching and crafting and making an outfit for myself, a steampunk opera suit. It’s the first time in over 3 years I have wanted to make something for myself, and am seeing it through.
I am not saying this movie will change your life or that you will fall head over heels for it. What I am saying is try and see it in a move theatre, try to see it and open your mind to something new.
buy the soundtrack from Itunes, or Amazon. you won’t regret it. it’s everything from classical opera to NIN to a little Tori Amos.
lyrically the film is intense and has added to the list of lyrics i want tattooed on me someday (if i ever grow a set to get a tattoo)
“a sheltered rose needs a little room to bloom outside her bedroom”
this is the video for Chase The Morning, my favorite song from the movie
